Alexa Perez, has just debuted as a talented singer/songwriter. She is building a worldwide following with her heartfelt and passionate songs, and strong, soulful voice.
Alexa released her first song, an excellent single called “Wondering.” It’s a solid indication that her future work will further establish her as an acclaimed artist who can achieve a global status.
The other striking thing about Perez is lyrical honesty. Perez has been open about her problems and doesn’t consider mental health discussions off-limits. The realism she brings to her songs is to be applauded and proved a timely reminder of why I love heartfelt pop done right. Perez delivers the lyrics with a voice that can soothe seductively or turn into a growling drawl at the drop of a hat. The lyrics are motivating and talk about how she’d rather go out and do something, and even fail, instead of sitting and wondering whether or not she can do it.
The production and engineering of the song is really well done. The introduction of new elements and transitions are impeccable with a beautiful synthy atmosphere. All this together with Perez’s angelic voice makes this single a beautiful release, with the only issue being the abrupt ending to the track.
Interview with Alexa Perez –
1) Let’s start off with a question about you. Considering this is your first release, what inspired you to write this song?
The original career plan was to be a songwriter but I came to the conclusion that the best way to break into the industry would be to release my own songs and build a musical resume. I knew the process was going to be mentally difficult but I was still surprised by how many insecurities and limiting beliefs I had to overcome. I went into the process with a clean slate and wanted to fully embrace creating something from scratch. So when I sat down to write, I ended up writing the song that I needed to hear during my first release. It inspired me to keep going and I hope it does the same for others!
2)Do you ever listen to your own music? If not, what kind of music do you listen to?
Until I got the final mix back for ‘Wondering’ I never thought I would actually be able to enjoy my own music. I thought I would always be able to hear something that was wrong or find something I didn’t like about my voice but Tokøka absolutely blew me away with his attention to detail and his ability to understand my vision. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve listened to it by now! In general I love any kind of pop that makes you feel something 🙂
3) Could you describe the impact you feel music has on society today?
I think that music is sometimes the easiest way for people to feel their emotions. How often do we turn on playlists to either reinforce how we feel or change how we feel? Songs start as an outlet for artists to express their emotions and it becomes a way for listeners to experience their own emotions and find community through shared experiences.
4)What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?
While the dream is to be doing music full-time, I actually still have a 9-5. If I didn’t have my music career I’d probably be having an identity crisis about the 9-5.
5) What is the best advice you’ve been given?
My favorite piece of advice was to listen to my body when I have to make any sort of decision and if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no. I started saying no a lot more but that made room for some really awesome hell yes moments!
6)After ‘Wondering’, what’s next for you?
In 2022 I plan to release a series of singles leading up to my first EP at the end of the summer! That’s all I want to give away so far but I’m excited to continue to grow my sound and meet new friends along the way.
7)What is one message you would give to your fans?
The idea of having fans truly blows my mind. I’m so grateful to have you all in my corner and can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for 2022!
‘Wondering’ is a fantastic release from an artist who deserves to make some serious waves. The combination of Alexa’s voice and the engineer’s production choices are a perfect combination..
