Jozie_ramone – Lord Jozie | High Complexities

Jozie_ramone (AKA Lord Jozie) is a multi-faceted artist who primarily raps, plays the guitar and produces. He began from the ripe age of 3 when he was playing with a vinyl receiver that was not functional. Jozie uses his art as an outlet to express himself. His latest release, Lord Jozie, is a 9 track album that has a run time of just over 21 minutes. Jozie seeks to create and express, like most artists but does so with a flair only he can manage.

We start the album on Hob Goblin. This track has a pretty solid beat. Jozie_ramone has a great flow that shows throughout all his tracks. However, Hob Goblin seems to kick the album off on the right note with so much happening. This track seems to hype you up while Jozie goes off about how no matter what comes our way, there’s nothing we can’t do about it. Similarly, in Friend Cuisine, we have a vocal sample in the intro till the beats kick in. The 808s are pretty solid, but the vocals with a tad bit of Autotune, sound absolutely amazing. The production work on this album has been sublime so far. Jozie_ramone has a lot to say with a great understanding of rhythm and rhyme.

Dumb Bitch reminds me of Lil Peep and XXXtentacion. There’s a great amount of hatred and anger, but he delivers these lines with no malice. While his lines seem relatively normal, it works in Jozie’s favour. The lines are simple enough for you to understand, but they’re so beautifully crafted to tell his story. Similarly, with Listen to Your Parents, you hear so many violent things, but Jozie is so great with his delivery that you’re not even bothered by it. Jozie_ramone kind of repeats himself, but it reminds me of the Good Kid, M.A.A.D City album where Kendrick does it to reinforce a statement. All in all, it’s a great interlude to move onto the next track on the album.

Leave kind of goes back to the initial formula Jozie uses with the vocal sample in the intro till the beat kicks in. I like how well-crafted the harmonies are. Jozie doesn’t just understand rap, but music as a whole to be able to create melodies and counter-melodies that have smaller complexities. It may not sound like a big deal, but it really is. His compositional skills really turn up in the album, especially on Leave. This track has what it takes to make it commercially big.

Stussy Coffin is a melodic beauty. Anyone that enjoys Drum & Bass would dig this album. Jozie_ramone has a lot to share with the world and it is massively evident with tracks like this. You can’t just listen to his music without understanding a little bit of where Jozie comes from. His experience shines through each track and how intricately layered they all are. I need to stress how amazing his voice is. Jozie has the melodic soothing voice of an R&B star. Jozie Wales follows a very similar technique. Moreover, he’s got this uncanny ability to navigate through his music so flawlessly. You can’t even be mad at what he’s saying because his delivery is just so insane.

Skull Sized Hell and Insane are the final two tracks on the album. These tracks end the album on the perfect note. Jozie doesn’t let up with what he’s trying to convey, and more importantly, he stands his ground with what he wants in the future and what he is capable of doing.

This album is such a great piece of work and I highly recommend it if you’ve got 20 minutes to kill or if you just want to hype yourself up.
