Desarae Dee – Day 2 Day | Genre-fluid with Keyboards

Canadian pianist/keyboardist Desarae Dee recently came out with a genre-bending R&B fusion track called ‘Day 2 Day’, featuring Markus Aurelyus on vocals. She’s known for her unorthodox and unique playing style and has been making waves in the Toronto music scene since 2014. Her latest release is a keyboard-centric track that features an eclectic blend of Neo-Soul, R&B, Jazz and Orchestral music. In addition to the release of her debut album ’20’ in 2016, Dee has shared a steady stream of singles over the years, which have been well-received by fans around the world!

‘Day 2 Day’ is introduced with a very lofi-inspired, vibrant chord progression played over a percussion rhythm. Markus’ verse comes in with a thumping kick beat and plays on to be complemented by a bass riff as the track progresses. The deep tone in his voice has a soothing effect as he sings motivating lyrics in a natural way here  – “How to cope/Where the money for the meal/Who to pay/Session be running late/Take a minute/Meditate, Eat, Pray”.

The song talks about the importance of hard work through interesting textures and groovy beats. Dee’s instrumental solo begins right after the chorus and she plays around with some synths and a piano to deliver a dramatic performance. Both parts of her solo are quite unique in their own ways and they play over the vibrant instrumentation beautifully. There is a cinematic feel to her performance as she tells a story with the keys; a fascinating production that will surely have you engaged till the very end!
