Dom Brinkley – Live at the Workers Club | Master of Improv

Dom Brinkley is an ardent singer, songwriter, producer, and guitarist from Melbourne, Australia. He played and released music in several bands over 6 years and kickstarted his solo career in 2020. Playing blues for a while, he began writing a Nick Drake-inspired folk album called “Moonlight Dream”.

Dom with his newly formed live band has been putting out some spectacular shows, ‘blending his unique songwriting and improv skills’, all around Australia. This passion has created a high-quality and beautiful live recorded album called “Live at the Workers Club”. Getting inspired by some of the legends like Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, and Gary Clark Jr, “Live at the Workers Club” is a multi-genre live album.

Talking about the album in detail. It has 6 songs and has a run time of about 38 minutes. It features songs in various genres from blues to dreamy instrumental. The first song is called “Dance of the Ancient Forest”, a super mellow instrumental song on an open-tuned acoustic guitar. It starts with a sweet lead that catches the attention and slowly progresses into a deep and low melody that acts as the core of the song. With harmonics and beautiful chord patterns on guitar, the song must have been quite a spectacle to listen live. Dom comes in full form with rhythm on in the chorus and continues till the end when the same intro riff strikes in to end the song.

The next song from the album is called “This Old Page”, which starts with a little funny commentary by Dom to engage with the audience. The intro kicks in with a very Hendrix-inspired riff on guitar that is groovy and has an interesting sound. Soon the vocals begin, Dom’s voice has gruff and on the lower side, making the song sound deep. A rising drum beat kicks in with other instruments and all together, they make the song sound like a country/rock piece. A loud and amazing guitar solo kick in with full power in the middle of the song with the audience cheering out loud, making the song sound purely incredible.

The album “Live at the Workers Club” is an example of how talented Dom Brinkley is, to be able to perform songs live with such passion and incredibleness is just unbelievable.
