Deep Dive Species Drops Experimental Electronica Album “Habitat” Featuring Surreal Guitar Riffs and Transcendent Melodies

Deep Dive Species emerged during the 2020 lockdown in New York, born out of the circumstances at the time. The band consists of Vadim Militsin (known for AUTiSM, Logica Abstracta, and Robotov-Millentrop) and Sergey Popovich (associated with Vopli Vodoplyasova, Hey! Lubo!, and Goodswan). Their collaborative process involves exchanging bits and loops between members until they coalesce into the final compositions, showcasing their innovative approach to music production.

Deep Dive Species has released a new album, “Habitat,” with 16 songs.

The opening track “Habitat” sets the tone beautifully with its surreal guitar riffs swirling into a transcendent melody. Words cannot fully capture the song’s evocative quality. Shimmering ambient synths float in the background, lending an ethereal texture. As the song progresses, it oozes with emotion – joy, introspection, surreality. Just close your eyes and let the music transport you on an unforgettable journey.

“Adventus” shifts the mood in a captivating direction, opening with crisp riffs and synths that take on a melancholic and deeply introspective tone. Subtle beats pulse beneath as electric guitars slowly intensify, building towards a head-bobbing crescendo that remains memorable.

“Seventy 7” with its almost meditative aura – stretching close to five minutes, the song unveils countless instrumental variations, overlays of texture, and the carefully layered addition of new elements. It transports the mind to a transcendent state as if floating through space into the unknown. Distinct moments emerge and recede like vivid impressions, keeping the experience continually intriguing over repeated listens.

“Salt and Water” by Deep Dive Species elevates the energy from the start while retaining a catchy melodic thread throughout. The retro-inspired guitar riffs and rhythmic patterns are extremely well-crafted, striking the ideal balance of nostalgia and freshness. The modern production brings driving beats that fully realize the addictive potential of the song. By incorporating elements of R&B alongside the other stylistic touches, the track reaches another level of sophistication and replay value.

“Consequence” immediately immerses you in an unsettling sonic world. From the opening notes, the production sweeps you into murky depths with an array of ambient underwater sounds. It’s both intrinsically strange and difficult to pull yourself away from exploring further.

The EP then mellows out with “Triple Peaks.” Slow-building riffs drift in like fog, laden with a pervasive melancholy. Laidback beats punctuate the hazy atmosphere, accentuated by generous doses of reverb that swell the spatial soundscape.

“Far Away” by by Deep Dive Species follows with another brief but impactful track in the vein of “Consequence”. Ethereal tones and textures transport you to a vast celestial sound world. Though shorter in length, it leaves a lingering impression through meticulously crafted audio landscapes that pull you far from earthly concerns.

“Afraid of Our Own Kind” takes you on an electronic journey. Layered vocals and punchy beats are enhanced by eerie synths and textures in the background. The song builds complexity through its juxtaposition of different musical elements – smooth melodies overlap with striking breakbeats.

Meanwhile, “Green Mist” by Deep Dive Species aims to mystify through rising synth lines and distant keys that hover just outside clear recognition. An atmospheric and experimental track, it allows you to immerse yourself in the mix of sounds yet also spurs contemplation. Synth patterns ebb and flow in a carefully crafted way that maintains intrigue and engagement throughout.

“Lost and Found” has a breezy, upbeat quality that perfectly captures the feeling of self-rediscovery. Layered synth melodies give it a sunny, carefree vibe, conveying the joy and relief of beginning to feel like yourself again.

“Always Stay With Me No More” by Deep Dive Species takes a darker turn musically but still draws you in. A tense, grungy guitar riff creates an edgy tone, while persistent beats drive the song forward in an intense, commanding way. As frustration seeps into the vocals, the song builds an aura of anger. But just when it seems it couldn’t get any rawer, an unexpected musical shift thrills you with its bold unpredictability. This track pulls you to the edge of your seat with its raw emotion and daring musicality. Once the pounding rhythm sets in, there’s no looking back – it simply commands your attention through to the climactic conclusion. Its visceral sound and uncompromising artistic risks make it one of my favorites on the album so far.

“Arizonan” is an epic track over five minutes long. It takes you on a musical journey with a wide array of fun, varied sounds that keep things interesting the whole time. With an almost anthemic quality, infectious melodies draw you in, and don’t let go. A brief sitar-like section provides the perfect cherry on top.

“Unconditional” beautifully captures the feeling of unconditional love through its joyous, magical riffs and soothing background synths. The track conveys pure warmth and comfort. “No Snow No Joy” starts with an otherworldly, ethereal touch that’s a stark contrast to follow-up break beats, making for an intriguing listen as the song constantly evolves in new directions. Overall, though, its heavenly elements provide a calming respite.

“Penultimate” by Deep Dive Species eases in with lovely guitar work before suddenly kicking into high gear with energizing EDM sounds that get your body moving. Its shift in pace and energy is certainly stimulating. The closing track, “Back to Elsinore,” has a mesmerizing, almost floaty vibe, like wandering alone at night under a trance-like influence. It sends the album out on a surreal, trippy note.
