“Fantasy Tales”, by Fallen Revenge Angel: Groovy, hard-edged techno!

Fallen Revenge Angel is a rising techno artist known for his dark, mystical soundscapes, blending minimal, melodic, and peak-time techno — adopting a rather experimental approach to his music, he presents his latest album, “Fantasy Tales” — keep reading for my thoughts!

This Magnum opus with its 16 tracks is truly a journey into minimal techno, atmospheric soundscapes, and a wild roller coaster of musical influences that do not fail to impress at every turn. The aptly named “Introduction” to this album experiments with unconventional melodic writing to quickly drive home the fact that this album is going to be anything but ordinary in its approach — be it the ominous arpeggios in the pianos, and the bells in the background. With the subtle pads in the background, the stage remains set for the main act.

The main act does come — right as the next track, “Der goldene Krieg” — bringing back the power and the punch of melodic techno with its saw pads and powerful bass synths, this track has a bounce and jive to it from the very start — and with a very gentle build in the energy that goes into an extremely groovy drop, this is the kind of track that would immediately get your pule rising and your hair standing on end — and I do not exaggerate when I say the drop is every bit worth it. The energy takes its sweet time to build, I admit, bu that is the beauty of progressive techno — equally rewarding in the buildup as it is in the drop. The inclusion of 8-bit sound elements lends this track a distinct retro sound — overall, a winner!

Switching gears a little bit, “In The Silver Castle” brings a harder-edged minimal techno sound that puts the focus on the bass and the growls in the lower ranges, and the white noises used for texture — while the reverbs lend this track a feeling of space and atmosphere, the energy remains firmly grounded in the kick drums and the basses — and is the kind of track that is, by itself, a trip to listen to.

“Bluroter Feenstaub” presents a hardcore, underground techno sound that’s hard to mistake for anything else — and with the organic sound design going on, there’s much to appreciate about the minimal sound design that punctuates this track. The power is there, the groove is ever-present, and the aggression is a thing of beauty. Couple this with the warm pads that make their entry around the 2-minute mark, and you have yourself a very well-crafted piece of music indeed.

At this point in time, I deem it prudent to comment on the production on “Fantasy Tales” — and safe to say, it is supremely well-done; the sound choices are delicate and deliberate, with the experimentation never failing to charm with its innovative sound. Be it the use of textures in the mix to create an eerie variety in the sound, or the punchy low-end basses, or the melodic composition and arrangement of each of the tracks, there’s something to appreciate at every corner of “Fantasy Tales”, and you wouldn’t want to miss it.

All in all, “Fantasy Tales” by Fallen Revenge Angel: Kickass, from every angle! The album has the flair, and the big sound to be deemed enjoyable to even the most discerning techno listener. Check out the album here!
