Prince Bishop – Roman Roads | Refreshing Brit Rock

Prince Bishop is a contemporary take on older British Rock based in County Durham, England. The band derived its name from the Prince Bishops who used to rule the land instead of the King for centuries. Defining themselves as a regal rock band, they create indie music with hints of shoegaze, space and prog rock. With only two released singles, Prince Bishop is currently working towards its first full-length album All Is Due.

Their latest release, Roman Roads, is a rather ethereal track with hints of dark undertones. They use reverb and really space the track out extensively. However, this leaves the band with plenty of room to fill it in with more concrete tones. Specifically, the vocal textures. With powerful drums, driven rhythm guitar and a hard bassline, the rhythm section is consistent, yet dynamic. The lead guitar has this shoegaze, light texture that perfectly contrasts the rest of the instrumental. The little interlude about halfway through the track that turns into a solo is simply to die for. I don’t think I’ve heard many British Rock bands actually achieve such a well-balanced sound in terms of space and concreteness.

Prince Bishop is, indeed, an Alternative Rock band to keep an eye out for. With their mesmerising tones and powerful rhythms, it is hard not to like them. Moreover, their energy is exciting and fresh which is hard to find these days,

I listen to and make silly noises while analysing why people behave the way they do.
