‘Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling)’ is a four-track EP by C’batch. It reimagines a central composition through multiple musical perspectives. The project builds around one core track that transforms a single composition through varied instrumental and cinematic shifts. The result is an EP that creates a unique listening experience by blending genres such as smooth jazz, contemporary R&B, soul, and elements of Pop.
This project is a one-man effort by Stephen H. Cumberbatch, also known as C’batch. He is a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer with decades of experience. Over the years, he has produced notable tracks such as ‘The Valut,’ ‘I Need You Now’ (by Sinnamon), and ‘Let Me Do You’ (by NV). His new release reflects both his technical versatility and his ability to transform a single musical idea into multiple creative symphonies.

Next Time (I WON’T BE FALLING) EP breakdown
Main version
The opening version begins with a restrained piano progression that gradually introduces the vocal lead. C’batch’s voice carries a smooth, jazz-influenced tone. Lyrically, the track explores emotional contradiction, balancing hesitation and resistance to falling in love again. Listening to this song, I feel that the artist delivers a strong emotional performance and conveys his love story and vulnerability through his words.
As the artist hits higher notes, his voice maintains an angelic, composed tone. He commits to complete honesty in the song as he reflects on his memories and flashbacks. This gives the song a nostalgic feel. As the arrangement develops, subtle electronic textures and guitar layers add depth without overpowering the composition. Toward the outro, the instruments expand slightly, adding a gentle lift to the music along with a hint of optimism.
Alternate vocal version
The ‘Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling) (2)’ is an alternate vocal version. In this track, C’batch shifts the atmosphere of the song toward a more intimate space with lighter and more relaxed vocals. However, the core structure of the track remains unchanged. The track emphasizes subtle lyrical phases and tone control, allowing its emotional nuances to come through more clearly.
Instrumental version
The ‘Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling) 1a’ removes the vocal layer entirely and reimagines the main version as an orchestral piece. The project takes a turn at this point as string sections and prominent horn accents introduce the theatrical experience. Here, the focus shifts to the composition’s structural complexity. Listening to this song, I envision a scene from a 2000s bittersweet romance movie where a happy ending is inevitable.
Cinematic version
The final variation, ‘Next Time (I Won’t Be Falling)-Cinematic Version 2,’ is a grand and more atmospheric layered track. The artist experiments with the song composition even more and deconstructs the original structure. The music in this track has punchy grooves and electronic textures. As we approach the end of this track, processed vocals and echoing effects create a futuristic effect. This effect, combined with the steady drum patterns, ties the EP together and brings back its cinematic character.
