The Forever Takeback’s first EP was released exactly a decade earlier, called ‘Breaking Free’. And after a long hiatus since 2016, he is back, having released four new singles since January. “Breathe Again (Semi-Stripped)” by The Forever Takeback is his latest heartfelt song about love & losing. A track that’ll take you back to the memory lanes of what could have been, but isn’t yet. A singer-songwriter from Shreveport, Louisiana, The Forever Takeback writes songs that mirror his experiences. He calls himself “just a guy who loves making music that helps him deal with life’s ups and downs, and hopes that his music helps others do the same”, which I can assure you that it really, really does. “Breathe Again” hits differently and even breaks your heart a little.

The soft acoustic, with the violin in the background, evokes a deep sorrow in the song. There’s a dejection in his voice, an intense pain that seeps past the senses and into the flesh of your being. The lyrics carry words from real-life grief that life often makes you go through, only this time, it seems never-ending. “Breathe Again” explores how the reality of most relationships these days is expectations, and how it becomes claustrophobic. Dreams become memories, and someone in the relationship chooses to leave. The line, “all my love, was wasted on a dream of what was”, hits the hardest. Because perfection is a myth, and it is our imperfections that give us that distinct flavour. So in the end, he implores, “take me back to the place where I can breathe again…where I am free”.
