Sylvan Tirelle can give you some premium jazz, with a twist. It has a folkish sound, it is exciting to listen to and enjoyable for the meat of what is created. The talented flautist is creating some of the best instrumental dynamics I have heard in the indie scene. Many more might think so, he is featured on several playlists. This is his album, Omni-Gatherum.

Jazz you like it
There is a lot to unpack musically, so let us just get into this. I do understand the irony of saying this while not knowing a speck of jazz, but I do seem to enjoy the electric energy shared amongst the musicians. Scrumbles gives you that 5/4 bass line and beat with some amazing textures lining up. Now that I have mentioned a time signature, though, I am scared you’ll expect technical mambo-jumbo. Nope, I just run with the feel, like Sylvan Tirelle in his compositions. Informed feel vs ignorant feel. Leads come in like waves, creating a swerving and moving composition that takes turns every few seconds.
Soft Sauce brings some of my favourite layers together. From the bass and beat interacting to the heavenly chords that rejuvenate the layers, it is incredible to listen to. Strings make a dramatic presence of pashmina like softness, sliding through with ease. pp500 creates that cool walking riff that you’ll want to groove to. Sylvan Tirelle is composing some gargantuan elements like he’s a gymnast in his prime. There are folk fusion elements that tantalize, and you feel one with the world again. Energetic breaks create a favourite pulse that promises some great transitions.

All the textures to hear
Softer tracks like Smuk Skat exist as well. This album is a culmination of so many different moods, trains of thought and the explosive condition of the cultured spirit. You can follow along with the soothing 4/4 also in this case, the song just being a melodic delight to lose your consciousness in. When something like this track is delivered, we might as well delve into mystery. Hammer Head is your action flick theme, with a lot of percussive heartbeats. It brings a memorable lead that ensures you’re in the zone for creating that pocket in your mind as well.
Squidgeman and Jestic Iskrem runs with a pairing like wine and cheese. There are songs here that retain the element of jazz, some that are just wondrous compositions with many layers. Closing the album with Rainy Day Rat, Sylvan Tirelle ensures your entire time has been worth the investment. He has taken you on a roller coaster of instrumental compositions, some of the best I’ve heard in my years of reviewing music. This artist is catching lightning in a bottle, and making a light show with the result. Listen to the album here with us!:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
