Most of our adult lives are spent believing that life becomes complicated as we grow up, and that only our childhood days were simple and easy. William Walsh’s “So Many Things” helps us realise that life can always be simple if we know when to take a break. In “So Many Things,” Walsh is postponed from all the things he needs to do by the sudden rain. This symbolic reference to nature being the reason for the delay is perhaps the best thing to happen. In a world where everyone is rushing to reach somewhere, yet reaching nowhere, Walsh beautifully writes a song about the most elementary thing in life. Pause. Yet we humans forget that.

The song falls into the pop-country genre with Walsh playing the guitar. It’s a warm, feet-tapping acoustic number that you will easily groove to. While the melody is a classy country beauty, it’s the lyrics that play the main character. The theme just feels like it’s too basic to even give a thought about, and even far from making a song out of it. Especially because we have unconsciously accepted our lives to be a hustle-bustle. We have made “I am busy” sound important and often a way to escape the mundaneness of simplicity. The song shows how we can still nurture the most basic needs like rest, observe, & play whenever we wish to.
