A new EP, “Versions,” released in April 2026 by Klass Jonsson, proves that reimagining can be just as powerful as the original. Each track explores a different emotional and sonic identity, yet together they form a cohesive artistic statement grounded in tradition, vulnerability, romance, and mythology. Jonsson’s music is dreamlike and has a cinematic quality. The EP “Versions” includes four songs, the flavours of ‘Summer Waltz’, the self-analizing ‘Sad & Ugly’, ‘Sleepless’ in love, and an acapella version with the Icelandic Choir of Gothenburg ‘Ár var alda.’

“Summer Waltz (Spelmanslag Version)” feels like someone walking with childlike enthusiasm along cobbled streets on a Scandinavian summer evening, while the golden hour shimmers on the stones. The track carries the graceful pulse of a traditional waltz while embracing the community-like energy of the spelmanslag arrangement, a style rooted in Swedish folk ensemble playing. At just under three minutes, the composition leaves a lingering, happy imprint. The music breathes with both precision and spontaneity, creating an atmosphere that feels nostalgic, celebratory, and quietly intimate. Jonsson preserves folk authenticity while giving the piece a cinematic openness.
There’s something quite withering about “Sad & Ugly (Casiotone Version)”, where Jonsson strips emotion down to its barest, most fragile form. The nostalgic warmth of a Casiotone keyboard lends the song a remarkable confidence. The confession-like storytelling makes you feel like you’re reading someone’s personal diary. What makes this version stand out is how it transforms sadness into something strangely comforting. Rather than dramatizing pain, Jonsson lets it sit quietly in the room, unresolved and honest.

With “Sleepless (Banjo Version)”, Jonsson takes a familiar feeling of restless introspection and reshapes it into something playful. The track feels like a confession from someone who is freshly in love and unable to wait for the next meeting with their beloved. The nervous excitement is heard in every pluck of the banjo. The composition is minimal, thoughtful, and deeply human.
“Ár var alda (Acapella Version with the Icelandic Choir of Gothenburg)” feels like an ancient invocation. Built around text drawn from the Icelandic Völuspá poem of the Poetic Edda, the piece carries the weight of myth, memory, and cultural inheritance. The collaboration with ‘The Icelandic Choir of Gothenburg’ transforms the composition into a deeply immersive experience, giving you goosebumps. The absence of instruments becomes its greatest strength, allowing the storytelling to feel deeply visceral and profoundly human. Jonsson’s arrangement balances reverence with emotional accessibility, inviting listeners into a soundscape that reconnects you with something timeless, primal, and quietly transcendent.
