Do you find it interesting to explore different soundscapes through music that follows no strict rules of catering to one single genre? In that case, you will surely be in for a treat when you tune in to the latest self-titled EP by Kallai. Tracing its inception back during the summer of 2023, the band’s line-up is a mix of members from the bands Trance to the Sun, Luscious Apparatus, and Lost Echoes. So, the members of Kallai include Cate Hukle on guitars, vocals, and synthesizers, Brian Wilcher on bass, David Gross on vocals and guitars, and Daniel Henderson on drums. Besides, if you are curious, the pronunciation of the band’s name and their latest EP is ‘call-eye’.

Let us find out what the listeners can expect from this EP!
The latest EP by Kallai consists of four beautiful songs and runs for a duration of approximately twenty minutes. If you are fond of ambient, atmospheric soundscapes, this EP will surely fit in with your favorite sonic zone. As a four-piece band, the musicians are undoubtedly some of the finest and most prolific artists because, as a listener, you simply cannot hit the pause button once you start playing the EP from the first song itself. While each song is different from the other, the unique factor of this EP lies in the fact that the band uses excellent sonic elements of a wide range of musical genres in these compositions, so you also get a taste of their versatility alongside the soul-pleasing and heart touching music they compose.
Here’s a little something on each of the tracks of Kallai!
The opening track, Always/Never, gives the listeners an out-and-out rock vibe with all the distorted guitars and a good lot of spacey reverb with laid-back vocals, following which, the second song, Palisades, comes off on a cleaner tone with the bass groove driving you to tap your feet while the synth and single-strum chords on the guitars make the perfect backdrop for the vocals to shine.
The third song, Dig, is a gutsy, heavy punk-rock tune with some really hard-hitting guitars and a rock-steady rhythm section with the drums and the bass holding the groove in a firm grip. The final track of the EP, Another World, is more of a psychedelic pop track with dreamy synth drones and swaying guitar lines over a slightly upbeat rhythm section with the drums going on with a steady count while the bass adds some layers of sonic colors with a nice and crisp groove. Precisely, unless you hear this EP, you can only imagine what surprises await you.
