Red Maker-B!tch | Enjoy the ruckus

God knows you’ve missed riff based quick rock. I know you have, because I haven’t heard some in quite a while. Forget the mainstream names, they’ve forgotten where they are by now. Red Maker brings to you, B!tch. It’s a single that’s here and there, mostly here. The best part? Its now.

Letting the riff marinate in the beginning, we hear the general announcement. This is for their least favorite person, and one hint is somewhere in the song name. The second guitar enters with the drums only after the first 40 seconds, so you can prepare yourself some space to rock out. We are underway. We had the chance to talk to Red Maker about this track, follow the interview below:

Influences and directions

1) Being a rock song, B!tch can have several influences including whom it was written about. Who would you say your musical inspirations are?

When we first met we found common grounds on so many different styles of music, from 60’s pop like the Doors, to 80’s hardcore, and various styles of heavy metal. All of that plus our own individual taste and experiences have almost intruded themselves into our sound. We’ve been compared to bands like Hockey Dad, Pine Grove, the Cribs and others we’ve never even heard of but as far as pin pointing exactly what bands helped birthed the sound its so hard to narrow it down.

The medium paced track can be enjoyed for its classic rock elements, with the live instruments doing their share to make it better. The Ramones style vocal part during the chorus is especially catchy, with the frustration almost palpable.

2) The main riff is relatively simple and yet a memorable hook. Do you write the melodies for these songs first or the lyrics?

Morgan: Almost always the guitar parts come first. There’s a few exceptions like our next single coming out in December called Hey Katie, in that song the lyrics and melody all came to me at once and I had to dig up guitar parts. But almost always we go home, hop on an instrument and it’s almost as if our fingers guide the guitar to reveal how we are feeling deep down. And when you already have yourself found out musically it makes it that much easier to write lyrics.

This is something that can clearly be heard in the riff dominated tune of B!tch. Their other songs each choose an emotion and go along with it, so far as to dictate the genre that we classify the songs into. If you see it from afar, each song is just telling a story with the emotion manifesting the style.

Genre hopping with the tracks

3) Songs of Wings sounds like alt-rock. Fool has that punk energy. Does this genre traveling happen by itself or do you plan it for each song?

Sam: As far as the genre traveling, it really just comes naturally. Most of the time we don’t sit down and say “Hey, let’s write a punk song, or emo, or polka” or whatever. It really just depends how the song is conceived. We want to relate the emotion behind the song as much as we can musically, so if our angry songs come out more punk, and our happy/easy going songs sound more alt or indie, we’re really just wanting to best present the emotions and topics of the track. Especially being such huge fans of the Beatles where songs and albums can differ so drastically, in a way they almost gave us permission to go about music like that.

B!tch takes up that same energy on a pedestal and makes it a healthy mixture of punk and alt-rock. Traversing moments between each, the song has enough fuel to propel your mood from gloomy to some good vibrations. We asked them about new music that might be coming our way:

Future projects and endeavors

4) You’ve now released 5 singles on the streaming service. Are we in for an album next or some more singles?

Morgan: For the time being we’re really into doing singles. We release one per month and have the next couple of months planned. But I know people have asked us for albums, people want physical copies to hold and we do to. So after awhile I think we’ll record a few extra songs, put together all of our singles and get an album out everybody’s way as early as spring.

Red Maker will be traveling with their music too, so we asked them about touring. They’ve released 5 songs and there are many more to come given the enthusiasm of the group that is in the right place.

Touring is definitely in our books come spring and summer. We’re in touch with some promoters in Minnesota and some bands out in the North Dakota and Nebraska so we’ll be out and about no doubt. As for collabs, we’ve got a list of people we’re looking at joining in on songs but nothing official yet, and obviously anybody who’s wanting to collaborate we are more than open to the idea!

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
