“Let Us In” by The Shrubs, A Love & Hate Relationship with Vulnerability

What if validation were never a thing, because acceptance lived within us, like every breath! Would jealousy and judgment then cease to exist, and free us from the cycles of endless karmic justice? This vintage piece of modern indie psych rock by The Shrubs makes me ponder deeply. “Let Us In” by the duo Miguel and Sophie is an insightful take on the vulnerability of being unique human beings. Something many of us are challenged to embrace in this world that constantly pressures us to fit into neat, square boxes. And, as those walls begin to close in, the mind grows claustrophobic; while the truest self within pleads, “Let Us In”!

“Let Us In” feels like a waltz between analog and digital sounds. The Shrubs work their magic, intertwining two opposites into musical twins. Miguel’s words tell an honest story, and Sophie’s voice paints a visceral imagery of their experiential track. The production of the song is synonymous with its storyline, both being unconventional.
