AURORA BY Noon’s ‘In The Shelter Of Mother Earth’ is an alternative rock ballad that reflects a prevalent mood of apathy for the state of the environment. The song seems to hold up a mirror for the listener, attempting to reach them with sweeping, moody guitars, insistent drums and a raw, tremulous vocal.

The Song & Its Message

‘In The Shelter Of The Mother Earth’ is the final track on Aurora By Noon’s 2023 album ‘Black Crosses in the Sun’; hence why it seems to hold a sense of resolution throughout. It reflects on the state of the Earth, highlighting a numbing apathy. Though the instrumentation is urgent and insistent they don’t penetrate this prevalent mood of apathy.

There is minimal variation in the instrumental which is led by moody guitars, insistent drums and a tremulous vocal. The guitars create movement throughout the song, becoming its main source of variation. They end up dominating the mix, pulling the listener through the song in bursts.

Though they are as sure as the drums, the vocals are drowned out by the instrumentation, highlighting the song’s mood.

‘In The Shelter Of Mother Earth’ resolves to reach the listener in one way or another. Its lyrics seemingly urge the listener to reflect on the state of the environment. This is done by putting a mirror on the apathy that seems prevalent when issues like the environment are discussed.
