Big Band of Boom-Big Bad Voodoo/Behind The 8 Ball | Swing into the year

That’s right. It’s a new year, you deserve a double A-side. No, you didn’t ask for it, but nor did you ask for a new variant of this virus. No competition, this one rules easily. Big Band of Boom know how to make an entrance, and a single won’t do. This is Big Bad Voodoo & Behind The 8 Ball.

Big Bad Voodoo is everything Tedischi Trucks Band would have done if they knew how to enjoy the groove. Rather than fixate and become blues purists, Big Band of Boom go big and make some real noise with Big Bad Voodoo. With a smashing riff and the vocals sounding like Zach de La Rocha from RATM, with some sense of pitch and melody. The band comes in with the ragtime pace, horns blaring and drums thundering. Great infectious energy on this track, converting a rock song into something the Preservation Hall Jazz Band would play. Tom ESC & Speakeasy Streets collaborate on this track to make it one worthwhile to jam and dance to.

Just when you thought, yes, this is a good track for the day, they give you another. Behind The 8 Ball is another swinging jam, with the sax and trumpets amplifying what the sound would traditionally be. They alter the flavor to a red hot fever of sorts, the pace and feel of the song changing completely. There’s a nice Snarky Puppy buildup there as well, and I love the hip-hop addition, like a Public Enemy effect thing going on.

So in case you were wondering, how you should start of the new year, here are some pointers. Release a double A-side. Make sure it rocks, and swings, has grooves deeper than your newest vinyl record. Hope that this band keeps releasing straight fire like this for years to come. Thank the universe for the circumstances. Thank Big Band of Boom for this great music.

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
