The Artist Muneer – Darkness To Light | Upliftingly Refreshing
Hailing from the United States, The Artist Muneer creates tunes and melodies that are optimistic. He describes himself as a Positive Content Hip Hop Artist as he creates a positive environment for his listeners. Having been releasing music since 2021, The Artist Muneer has been spreading his message of positivity for some time. His latest album, Darkness To Light has a run time of just over 24 minutes with 9 songs on the list.
The album starts off on Dark To Light. This track has one of the most interesting intros I’ve heard in awhile. The FKJ-esque vibes created initially have such a lasting effect on the entire track. The Artist Muneer has some pretty good flow and his lyrics speak his truth. Off Dis Road is such a vibey track, though. I love the references that Muneer throws in. His old school flow and beat are arguably his best features. I really appreciate how The Artist Muneer does not mince his words. It’s rather interesting to actually hear what someone is rapping about (sorry, Mumble Rap fans).
Moving on to Red Dot, we have a track that references the red dot scope on assault rifles. I suppose it’s symbolic of the gun violence in America. This track is a politically-charged rant about gun safety and violence. It takes on the war, as well as domestic disputes. It’s a rather interesting and intense take. Welcome 2 Zion is a contrastingly different track. It takes things down a notch until Muneer hits his distinct scream rap. However, I think that this track sounds like something J. Cole would probably come up with. I think this is my favourite track on the entire album.
My People is yet another positive outlook on community identity. It’s a raw, fresh and powerful statement that talks about growing with the community. I love how Muneer takes some of the best references I’ve hear in rap music and curates a storyline about how we have to help each other grow. My People is a track that helps you feel empowered. The beat reminds me of some of the Old School beats that gave more importance to the lyrics. Similarly, Be Alright takes the idea of how people are struggling, but with the hope that things will be alright in the future. The Artist Muneer is one of the most upliftingly refreshing rappers I’ve heard of in awhile.
Emotions is another raw, emotional piece that needed to be said. Muneer hits out at the people who inspired him by either helping or not helping him out in life. The optimistic view that he takes is one we all strive to achieve at some point in our lives. There’s so much that Muneer hits on that you could relate to and that’s what makes him such a great artist. It’s the most raw and authentic thing I’ve heard from the rap industry in some time. We see the same thing in tracks like Allure and The Score. Muneer brings in the most real aspects of life that we’re faced with and we find it so relatable which kind of comforts us.
I absolutely love Darkness To Light. I think this is one of the greatest albums to have dropped this year and it certainly deserves more attention than it has right now.
