Patty Duffey – There | Compassion

Charming– is the one word I would use if I had to describe “There”by Patty Duffey, songwriter. There are few songs that have this kind of charm to them right from the first second, and at the end of my listening to this song while I write this post, I’m glad I came across this song. Keep reading.

There is a certain element of homeliness, a certain kind of charm that comes from a well-articulated voice paired with a nice guitar riff, with a melody that is easy on the ears, that invokes the kind of comfort that one would feel after a long week, with a bourbon in their hand sitting by a warm, crackling fireplace. This is the kind of atmosphere I was immediately transported into the moment I heard this song for the first time.

Yet, amidst all this comforting, soothing, almost lullaby-like tone of this song, there is an unmistakable element of joy, one of celebration, an almost festive mood pervading throughout the execution of this song. It makes for an amazing combination, really, a dynamic that few songs, example this one, manage to hit right on the head.

Getting down to the technicalities of this song, both from the perspective of songwriting as well as dynamics and energy control here, I am pleased to note there is a lot of good things happening that catch my ear. The mix is well-controlled, with the nature of the guitars and the drums being well-tamed; very well so, in my opinion; featured vocalist MA based pop artist/singer songwriter Amelia Earnshaw shines through, clear as a cloudless moonlit sky; and left a lingering impression on my ears and mind.

I think “There” by Patty Duffey makes for a worthwhile listen, a great investment of your time the next time you pick up your headphones and phone.
