A tourist inside someone’s honest, deepest, and most intimate diary entries! That’s precisely how the latest and debut eight-track EP by Maria Lane, Maybe I’ll Feel Better, will make you feel. Based out of Brooklyn, USA, Maria Lane is truly a storyteller who captivates you with her beautiful voice and takes you to a world of intense emotions where you can’t help but lose yourself entirely.
The first of times when all things seem beautiful!
The EP begins with a song named Serotonin that sets just the right vibe you would want to be while listening to the album. An acoustic track, the composition is melancholic, and the vocals are soulfully haunting. This song makes you immerse yourself in your thoughts. The next song, Haunting, is lyrically self-explanatory and is built upon a smooth composition that involves beautifully played synth chords and lines alongside a straight tight bass groove and occasional acoustic guitar elements. It talks about being in an intimate moment in a new relationship during which the thoughts of the ex-partner haunt her because, deep inside, she does not wish to separate herself from her old partner regardless of how better the current partner is.
Runaway/I Love You is a mesmerizing composition with a chorus that is so heart-touching that all you will want is to lie down with your partner by your side while you listen to it. It is an honest reciprocation of our feelings for the love of our lives, and thus you’ll be able to relate to it easily. The next song of the EP, Crash, is a lyrically metaphorical representation of the fear of separation from one’s love interest. Through the lyrics, she requests her partner to drive the car slower and stay within the speed limit because she does not wish to encounter another crash, which is a metaphor for her past relationship where she suffered the wounds of a break-up!
The sadness that reality brings!
The song Mean It is one of those songs that will make you sad as we listen to the story of how the narrator got cheated on in her relationship! It is a soothing song yet lyrically quite hurting! But the following track in Maria Lane’s Maybe I’ll Feel Better takes a happier turn. Falling For You (In The Fall) is a song about reminiscing fond memories with your partner, the heartfelt emotions during the initial times, the first kiss, and how all of this makes us feel like we’re flying above the clouds in utmost joy!
While these are some beautiful memories that come to the mind now and then, and even though one can come to terms with reality, it is tough to get over it all so soon! That’s what the next song of the EP, Crying In A CVS, portrays! This track talks about the phase when one finds contentment within the self after separation in love life and starts to focus on self-love and care. But unfortunately, memories do knock us down anytime, and we feel back to square one, lost in the thoughts and hopes of making things work out again!
The final song of the EP, 26, brings the perfect end to the album. The song is beautiful yet not at all optimistic in any way. Instead, this song talks about the harshness and monotony of reality and assures that birthdays are just another day, and we become another year older. Other than that, there’s nothing that changes anyway!
Maria Lane’s Maybe I’ll Feel Better is an album you should definitely add to your playlists. Every song of this EP is mesmerizing and surrounds you with various intense emotions! Listen to this album here:
