“All Good Things” by Matt DeAngelis: Elegance in pop, delivered effortlessly

Matt DeAngelis is a 24-year-old singer and songwriter hailing from Southern New Jersey, USA. His journey as a songwriter began at the young age of 8, driven by a deep aspiration to promote a positive perspective in a world often fraught with challenges and pessimism. His latest single is “All Good Things”, a soulful melody that aims to spread the message of joy, positivity, and hope. Keep reading for my thoughts!

The song, right from the first second, follows a nice, downtempo flow that draws the listener in from the second they plug in their headphones. It’s almost like the perfect companion to a lazy, warm evening by a fireplace with some scotch in hand, exactly how I chose to enjoy this song. Matt’s voice is easily one of the highlights here, with his effortless vibrato and the piano in the background playing a perfect dalliance to bring something quite special and endearing.

The production is filled with these little things that really speak to the attention to detail on this song. The picked bass that is round and present, the pianos that ring loud and clear, yet still letting the fills of the drums shine through where they enter– I was transported to almost literally a world of my own when I was listening to this song– and that, is the hallmark of good songwriting and production, which “All Good Things” effortlessly achieves. Kudos to that!

The key change at the end of the song brings a welcome hit of nostalgia and feel-good, like the classic rock songs of old, with the change in question happening rather elegantly. A key change is often one of the hardest things to easily accomplish in a song, let alone in this manner– and I’m glad to report that it easily stands out as the best part of this song. Overall, “All Good Things” is quite the package, and definitely deserves your attention this week.
