“Astralnaut” by Dr. Sounds: Ambient wonders, soothing electronics

Dr. Sounds, who also goes by the name Alexander Forselius, is the offspring of the renowned drummer from the iconic rock group, Tom Trick. He is a gifted musician and producer within the LGBTQ+ community, and he has established a solid reputation in the realms of ambient and electronic music. On his latest release, “Astralnaut”, he takes us through a soothing, relaxing electronic journey. Keep reading for my thoughts!

Everything about this song is soothing, to the point where it appears to make time slow down, or even freeze. It lets you take in the layered depths of the sounds Dr Sounds uses, with endless harmonies forming and dissolving before you, in an enthralling display of beauty and elegance. There is no percussion, no meter, no beat to nod your head to– just pads that waft in and out of the spectrum, treating you to more and more acoustic grandeur with every passing measure.

The choice of sounds here are definitely the highlight here– and how they play into each other, creating a cocoon of relaxation, one that makes you really jog your mind and think; that is how I was feeling when I let this song loop for who knows how many times, because this song achieved its purpose: to relax the listener enough so as to make them lose track of time, and that, I think, is easily the best part of this song.

Of course, the melodies play a big part in creating that kind of void; with a gentle sounding key and a simple, yet elegant set of harmonies that envelop you throughout the runtime of the track. It really is quite something, I will say, the way that it creates an atmosphere and draws you in so effortlessly.

“Astralnaut” by Dr Sounds really sets itself apart in how much it was able to make me feel, with how seemingly little going on in the production department, really embodying the ‘less is more’ ethos to the very T. Check out “Astralnaut” by Dr Sounds here!
