Erik Findling – Betrayal | Classy

Sometimes in this world, certain people have the drive, luck and ambition to pursue their dreams and actually realize them at some point. So many of us dream of being astronauts as kids. I mean at least I did. But did I become one? Clearly not! What is the difference? I think it’s the ambition. I think I never really wanted to be an astronaut, it just felt cool to say. Erik Findling got his dreams right. He wanted to be a musician and picked up the guitar at age 4. Here he is today releasing his second EP, a classy one I must add.

Erik Finding was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He got into the music scene very early in his life and did not stop. He has persevered in the jazz scene and was even selected as a guitarist for the 2017 GRAMMY Combo. Findling got an opportunity to record at the legendary Capitol Records in LA as well as perform for the GRAMMY Awards Afterparties. To top it off, he was also the only guitarist in the country to be selected for the prestigious Jazz Band of America that very year.

The 5 track EP begins with ‘Joshua’. The guitar work of Erik is absolutely gorgeous but the percussions take the highlight in this jazz fusion track. The composition is lovely and it’s a very captivating track.

Lukewarm just blows my mind. I barely have any words to describe any of the tracks in this album but Lukewarm is just… mind-blowing. The amazing electric guitar at the back with the bass guitar and percussions pounding on your head. Oh my god! Who even knew music could sound this confusing yet appealing at the same time?

Stella by Starlight starts off on a much lighter note. Makes me feel like im on the beach at night, drink in my hand, gazing at the stars. But wait, why am I wearing a tux?  Stella by Starlight is really psychedelic, like some ambient jazz that just sets the mood for you and your special someone. All I can say is – “Don’t forget your tux!”

Oh man! Oh man! Betrayal changes the tempo once again. A really groovy track. Think of a high-end club back in the 20s. Right back to the roots. This wonderful composition has a brilliant piano roll that tingles your brain like a good head massage. It keeps on going with the bass guitar bumping with it. The percussions remind me of “Rider’s on the storm”.

‘Lets cool one’ is a classy end to this album oozing with Jazz goodness. It combines all the elements of the tracks before. A very nice piano roll with some really interesting percussions and of course Erik’s amazing guitar work. A celestial track that takes you through a wonderful journey filled with twists and turns. Towards the end, Findling creates this world within your head. With just bass strings, and a light hi-hat in the back and some sudden piano stabs.

This EP is a treat to your ears. It just takes away all my worries. Everytime I listen to this I hear something new and its never ever boring. Erik Findling is a musical genius and this EP is a tribute to his brilliance. I have never written such a heartfelt review because I must say this album is just brilliant!

Erik Finling is a sonic architect that can build geological structures in stereo!
