“Gangsta Party”, by cmfrt.: Trippy, modern hip-hop meets the West Coast attitude

“Gangsta Party” by cmfrt. is the latest release by the artist, following releases such as “Facelift” and “Life Jacket”, both of which have risen to acclaim on streaming platforms. With this song, they hope to keep the bandwagon rolling, as they mould their sound eventually into their signature. Keep reading for my thoughts!

True to cmfrt. style, the stylistic base for this song remains modern hip-hop with some elements of pop and melodic rapping emphasis, with a heavy influence from trap chiming in to bring the aggression to the sound that carries this whole song forward. There is power in the production, with great sound choices all around that make this song an interesting listen from the get go– and that is only made better by the rhyming and the lyricism, which are definitely a standout aspect about this song.

A I try and highlight in my reviews, the execution of the musical idea is ultimately what lets the creativity of the artist and the producer shine through, especially on hip-hop; and I’m glad to report that that the concepts that are introduced to the listener from the start of the song, are introduced gently and with polish and finesse, and this is something I really liked.

The mixing and mastering on this song tends to keep towards the balance between raw power and atmosphere, allowing the tight soundstage to really come into its own, and that it does– overall, this yields a very pleasant sounding product that is solid from a technical standpoint and this elevates the listenability of the song even further.

Overall, “Gangsta Party” by cmfrt. is one song that ought to be in your playlists this week, and for weeks to come. Check out the track here:
