Dorian – Reign Love | Fresh R&B

Dorian is a Hip Hop and R&B artist from New Jersey, USA. A passionate person who believes in the impossible, Dorian creates music that is authentic to himself and his craft. He also believes that sharing his story with people who can resonate with it will also help them see things through. He manages to craft a sound based on his influential genres and music in order to make something more authentic to himself.

His latest single, Reign Love, is a deep, powerful, R&B track that features a steady beat and fluidic flow. The trap beat is seductive, dark and moody with brilliant snares and a deep kick. However, Dorian’s voice is smoother than butter, cutting through the mix so well. His voice reminds me of Usher, Chris Brown and many other R&B artists like them. His flow is fluidic, flowing freely and with such grace. This whole track is perfect to just relax to at the end of a long day or really for any mood. The lyrics on their own are seductive enough, but once added to the mix make it a million times hotter.

Dorian has truly captured the essence of his sound in his music. It usually takes musicians a long time, years even to get the right sound that is authentic to themselves and their craft. However, he does it so effortlessly and musicians who are just finding their footing can really take note of him. Moreover, we managed to score an interview with the man himself. Read on down below for more!

How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

I would describe my sound as classic ’90s and 2000s meets today’s music! My music is rooted in substance from a subject matter standpoint; but it is also a blend of some of my favourite genres: R&B, Pop, Electronic, Hip Hop, Soul and even Gospel. So, if you’re looking for something current, yet feels nostalgic to that “Golden Era” of music, I may be your guy! lol

What suggestions do you have for any musicians out there trying to make it in the business?

That’s tough because I don’t know if I necessarily see myself as worthy of giving advice on this yet. But I would say (1), be true to yourself. Listening to that inner intuition and sticking with that ensures you won’t have any regrets– because at least you know you’ve done things your way!  And (2), don’t give up. Hard work and determination will take you further than you’d ever imagine.

How easy/difficult has the journey been for you so far?

It has been a learning process for me, and it is one that I have enjoyed thus far! I released my first single in 2019, and the journey as an independent artist has been great because I get to dictate my musical narrative! I love the authenticity and purity in that. So I would in short describe it as: “Hard work, but fun work!”

What goes into creating a track like Reign Love?

When I write a song, I’m listening and analyse what melodies, thoughts and feelings come to mind when listening to an instrumental track. So, when I heard the instrumentation, I almost instantly thought of the title and imagined how I could sonically capture the essence of that title. I knew I needed “rainfall” sounds added, and I knew I wanted lush and full harmonies to compliment them. Then, I personalized the song by telling my story in the lyrics. Because, I am indeed “Running, running and gunning for the finish line!” lol And I pushed myself vocally when recording. I tried to emote as best as I could so people would feel the message! As a songwriter, I am always pouring bits of my story and soul into the lyrics of a song; but “Reign Love” does truly feel special to me because it truly speaks to where I am right now personally and spiritually.

Where do you get most of your ideas for creating the music that you do?

Most definitely God. I feel like a vessel on assignment– one that has been gifted with something bigger than themselves. (We all have been!) That level of inspiration is what truly keeps me going! But then I also study the greats and some of my personal favs in music: Michael Jackson, Prince, Monica, Brandy, Usher, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Beyonce and Destiny’s Child, Stevie Wonder, Chris Brown…you name it! It inspires me to see artists like them use their gifts in great ways. I am definitely a “student of the game” in that sense.

With so much under your belt as a musician, and an extensive discography, what do you see yourself doing next to enhance your career?

Thank you! I feel like I’ve just begun. So: More music, more videos, more performances, more outreach to my fans and music lovers, & more hard work! Emphasis on the hard work part lol I’d love to be mentioned among the musical greats, and so I plan to stretch my gifts and talents as far as they’re willing to stretch me!
