The Old Youths – Polaroid Star | Relaxer

The Old Youths is a UK-based band that can soothe your soul. Influenced by old and new sounds, they bring their own blend of swirling guitar verses and hard-hitting choruses. Having released two tracks so far, The Old Youths seems like they’re on their way towards success. They’ve been featured on BBC Introducing and BBC Sounds, which will pave the way for their future work.

Polaroid Star is a short track that has such brilliant dynamism. The drums start off with a strong swing, as do the guitars. The vocal melody, smooth as ever, feels like a hot knife cutting through warm butter. Meanwhile, the bass line keeps the groove along with the drums. The little refrain that takes things down a little is the perfect set-up for the outro that spills dynamic instrumental work into you. The drums seem to take a marching band beat that is complimented beautifully by the guitar work.

I find The Old Youths have taken a classic formula and added their own blend of spice to it. The track just overflows with authenticism from the band. Everything from the instrumental to the vocals sits perfectly in the mix. If this hasn’t convinced you to start listening to these lads yet, I’m sure when you give Polaroid Star a listen it will speak for itself.
