I Am The Mountain – Overthinking Conversations | Euphoric Relaxer

I Am The Mountain is an Indie Folk project based in the United States. Having begun as a Folk project by singer-songwriter, Colton O’Reilly, the group has seen many additions in order to achieve the sound that they now have. The group features heavy use of horns in addition to their maelstrom of eclectic Indie. I Am The Mountain claims to be everywhere, from bars and cafes to your own brain as you fall asleep. I must say that they truly know how to set the tone for any mood – making them an easy earworm.

Overthinking Conversations is the latest addition to the band’s repertoire. The song starts with this lovely, light vocal and drum sequence. It feels like the song itself is fading in as you hear the horns get clearer and clearer. Additionally, the drums are also out of focus (for lack of a better word) until they get clearer. The first verse sets the song up to be deep, dark and gritty. However, the trumpet and the remaining horns find their way into the mix with an ethereal drum roll. When the guitar breaks and the horns kick in hard, there is a brief moment of disillusionment from the idea you had of the track. The little instrumental breaks act as transitions for the track to pick up and add more elements. Moreover, each break manages to set the track on different moods, yet they’re all connected.

This track is, by far, one of the greater Indie Folk Rock tracks I’ve heard in a long time. The sparkly, distorted guitar work really tug on your strings while the vocals soothe your soul. There’s a brief moment of silence that is met with an accented horn section and powerful vocals that really sells the whole idea of the song.

I Am The Mountain is, certainly, a group that you should keep your eye out for if you want to get ahead of the curve.
