Gentlemen’s Crow-Did I Get the Picture? | Salvo

In the cultural ethos that surrounded 90’s rock, many bands might come to mind. The Velvet Underground were pioneers, while some might argue that The Pixies & The Smashing Pumpkins spearheaded the movement. Nevertheless, the reason I’m name dropping & providing unnecessary information is that-The Gentlemen’s Crow embody the purity of alt-rock. Their single Did I Get the Picture? is a case study on the same.

It is possible that you can hear this band and ask what’s new about it. In the era we are densely caged with suppressed tunes and looped whoops, this song is a revelation. The layered guitars create a surface sonic zoo for one to peruse through, as the Everlong style drums captivate. They don’t shred through 55 solos for 3 minutes, and make sure the lyrics gain prime importance through the duration of the song. The effects used are psychedelic, while phasing through the left and right hemisphere of your brain-I promise you that you will remain entertained.

This could be a puff piece. This is a relatively young band, I could spew some pretentious bullshit, and call their music “derivative”. Well, no music isn’t. I’ve heard those guitar effects loads of times, but never like this, as the dynamic is new. The bass could have followed the guitars, but has its own bounce and energy. In other words, to put it eloquently, The Gentlemen’s Crow kicks ass.

This won’t be the only song of theirs you like. Their self-titled track from last year and You Were Never Really Here has to be heard, for you to really understand what they are doing for alt-rock.

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
