“Cut Me Open”, by Jane N’ The Jungle: Punk rock goodness, with a side of metal

Jane N’ The Jungle is an alt-rock band from Phoenix, Arizona, in the United States, that has been fast garnering acclaim and a loyal fanbase, owing to their unique sound that blends together elements of punk rock, alternative rock, and metal. Their latest single is “Cut Me Open”– keep reading for my thoughts!

One thing that immediately stands out about this track is the clarity of the production; every element of the song has its own space, and the lyrics are clear and intelligible; to the point where even without a lyric sheet, one is able to discern the lyrics quite accurately. This, allowed me to explore the lyrical content of the song, which has powerful messaging, and themes of longing, and want, enveloped in a layer of sweet burning melancholia; striking chords effortlessly, which is something I quite loved in my time listening to this track.

The guitars ring loud and proud, with great power in the riffing and amazing chemistry with the rest of the ensemble, especially the drums, which have displays of technical mastery, with its fast passages, centred almost perfectly around the tick of the metronome, which gives a very significant, polished feel to this track. The guitar parts, especially, brought back another of my favourite songs– “Agneya”, from the album “Helios/Erebus”, by God Is An Astronaut.

Overall, “Cut Me Open” by Jane N’ The Jungle manages to sound powerful while conveying delicate themes, with a focus on technical mastery and, for the most part, execution and production that punches far above what their fan base size currently is. With releases like this, I’m sure that number will grow. Rapidly. Check out the track here!
