‘Crumbling’ by Catlea is a piano-led indie-pop power ballad that ebbs and swells in its empowering realisation. Realisation that shows the singer that they were crushed under the weight of toxic expectations and being put on some sort of pedestal.

‘Crumbling’: Falling Apart and Coming Together
The song’s lyrics feel almost stream of consciousness, with mini-realisations that build and build before centering back to what is weighing down on the singer. “…I’m trying to pretend that its all ok, but I’m begging you please get me out of this place…”. These lines, particularly the last part ring with a sense of fear the first time, holding in them a sense of initial terror and confusion.
The first refrain holds a sense of regret and quiet incredulity. “…You put me up on this pedestal, but now I’m crumbling down…”. Catlea’s incredulous laugh at the end of the line punctuates this, leading to a steady percussion that builds and builds.
The second verse on ‘Crumbling’ grounds these mini-realisations, swelling through them to make sense of the situation’s intensity. But now there’s a spark to the words, a sense of resilience that subtly slots into place with those realisations.
“…I tried to get down, but I’ve gotten used to the view…”.
These lines in the bridge solidifies these subtle, dynamic feelings:
“…I’m stuck under the rubble,
I think I’m in a little trouble,
This isn’t the first time I’ve rebuilt myself up…”.
‘Crumbling’ by Catlea moves through its soundscape with an emotional swirl of resilience and acceptance. Its piano-led melody, reminiscent of a 2010s-pop ballad begins minimalistically, setting up this swirl of emotions in a way that resonates. This before it settles with a quiet fire that is warm with acceptance and silent resilience.
“…I’m stuck under the rubble,
I’ll be ok eventually,
But for right now I’m crumbling down…”.
