‘Crossroads’ by Franc Loz is a Introspective yet Cathartic Alternative Rock Debut

‘Crossroads’ by Franc Loz is a reflective alternative rock debut that longs to press pause on life to figure out where to go from here. Guitars and drums trot through the verses before slowing down at the refrain, much like the song’s main theme.

The lyrics ponder on systems that seem broken, giving the lines time to contemplate whether its the system or the person within it that may need to change.

“…I think the system is broken,…

…But I’m probably just lazy inside..”.

Pressing Pause

‘Crossroads’ finds its narrator at an introspective crossroads, wishing that life would slow down for them somehow. The song’s opening lines describe these emotions with a sense of almost disarming clarity.

“…Struggling to get out of bed,

My compass is broken.

Its probably been broken for a while…”.

The beginning of ‘Crossroads’ find the singer lost, though the music trots as though led by an uplifting drive. But at its core, the song alludes to this isolating sense of lose that seems to render the singer inert.

“…I don’t want to move at all,

I just want time to stop.

The thought of it is crushing me…”.

A Response to Burnout

‘Crossroads’ sounds like a song that seems to respond to burnout and a harsh inner-critic. The line “…but I’m probably just lazy inside…”, seems to highlight this.

By the song’s bridge, the first line of the refrain loops while an encouraging chorus whispers resolve. This builds and builds until this resolve solidifies with these lines:

“…I think I know what I must do…”

And further,

“…I just want to pick a door,

The right one just under my nose.

I’m choosing now, so let us see…”

‘Crossroads’ allows for a long moment of catharsis by its final refrain, almost Coldplay-esque in the way ir expands. There is now a truly strong sense of resolve, though a feeling of loss still lingers.

‘Crossroads’ by Franc Loz introspects on being at a crossroads in life and seems to articulate the mental strain that comes with choosing a path. The pressure that comes with it. The song feels relatable and is a calming listen on every loop.
