Krakathoa is the force that breaks open an unanswered door. We don’t want brute force in our metal alone. More flavour. We live in a time when almonds produce milk. There is a lot to explore in how this metal band shapes Swedish metal, in their own unique way. The themes they choose seem to get my blood boiling as well. So mischief managed. This is their latest EP, …And Death Will Be My Name.
Nihilism sells for a cent now around the world. We are waiting for death, some want it painless-scratch that and make it all. Krakathoa want death to be swaddled with pain when it reaches the scum that wreck the Earth. Their opening song called Below the Carcass annihilates the silence with a menacing riff. The production quality is incredible (come on, it’s Sweden, obviously). Screams reach your soul, mirroring the kind of rage and contempt you want to release on the corporation you’re a slave for.

The slow riff demolition drive at the end of the song will make you want to headbang your spine off. Probably your eyes too-for the next song is Eye Collector. It bleeds in perfectly (no pun intended) with the kind of chaos the band wants to bring. The growls are a perfect highlight of what needs to be shown-along with the demonic riffs the band is delivering. Someone get Krakathoa the Grammy for best riffs written. Sadly, they don’t have Grammys for things that matter.
Metal delivery: intravenous
Sink/Swim has the kind of delivery that makes you want to have a homemade mosh pit. It is chaotic, the exact kind of pace that will pop your head out of your socket and aggressive as all hell. You feel Apologetic Apathetic for yourself by the time you get to the song. It has another grueling riff that gets you right in the deep pits of the groove. Their musical delivery is as consistent as their sunsets, and once they have committed to the genre, expect brutal, cataclysmal performances from the sweethearts.

Devour the Enemy is the quintessential track, picking up the tempo for some incredible zeal. Krakathoa want to give their all for every song they compose, and that might be too overwhelming for you “sober at 11am” kids. No kidding, please. They close the album with the gnarly number Diamond Coma. It is explosive, slower, which means you can find your temporary mortal enemy for the wall of death.
When Krakathoa deliver the way they do, it’s done so in their characteristic synergy. This EP is a culmination of ideas, melodies and undivided rage. Like the ones your dads download on you for no reason. In their debut EP, we know we’ll never get a treat as good as this band, for a long time. Listen to their killer music here with us!:
