Birdman Cult bring gravel munching riffs to us with their single, “Maiden, Mother, Crone”

Birdman Cult have approached music like a prancing tiger in the jungle. Completely unaware-the genre lurks as just another kill. This is an artist using music for everything, from expression to some kind of liberation. Thank god everyone in this band found each other. This is their latest single. Maiden, Mother, Crone.

I’d be remiss to say they don’t make me miss New Wave. The fuzziness and rough edges are still from a desert rock love maybe, but the riff and rhythm attack is that pop flavour that the radios loved so much. The rhythm first remains, then changes as the vocals begin their slow drill into your psyche. You might have only heard them through Ferryman, but you need to expand your library by several spheres. The gravel like bass rolls around against the guitar rhythm-finding an essential pocket to play within.

Rock you’d like to miss

I must credit every member of Birdman Cult for contributing to that riff. It might be played only on one instrument or two, but the space made around it makes for a fascinating listen. There is a reason bands like this are featured in several playlists. There is a need to listen to what can broaden your understanding of genres and sub-genres.

Birdman Cult are also on tour in the UK, so if you’re lucky enough to be where they are playing-just go. Gone to Pot and Whiskey Sunburn are some other instant favourites from this band of bandoliers. Make sure you follow them for more groovy music like this and listen to their single here:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
