Yo-Carmina Alegría

Yo brings a star to shine with melodic experiential new album, “Carmina Alegría”

You’re in for a new experience, if you’re listening to Yo for the first time. From writing books to composing music, there is less that this polymath has not experienced in this lifetime. In search for more experiences, this musician has made something that is a breathtaking adventure and experience for every listener. For readers, there is his beautiful poetry and writing. And for those who listen, he has brought in a treat you will keep returning to. This one is called Carmina Alegría.

An ode to a dream

Carmen Sánchez Barrera is the spotlight of this album. She was a singer so renowned in the community that people waited with bated breath to hear her singing. Now, after her passing, Yo gives her the claim she always deserved. Opening with Desaparecer, he melds his own music with instrumental highlights and vocals that stand out. It is an operatic, symbol of hope and power, showing how a musician has the ability to frame a legacy even after it might seem like it’s too late. The build is enchanting, shows Yo reminiscing moments while bringing the vocal star to life through all this music.

Monologues might run through the album, and some parts might have her singing small parts. The second song is like a small bio, where her voice gently builds over soft instrumentals. As we flow through songs, Yo enchants us with haunting, emotive instrumental parts that will touch your heart. Ambiences are gentle and soft, painting a picture for all of us to stare at and imbibe.

Yo experiments, with honour

Yet, this remains a bold album. It isn’t like Yo is only emotionally at the brink of tears always. Volver al aire is the 4th song, and it has the splendid vocals by Mrs. Barrera in all the splendid glory its supposed to be witnessed as. An electronica fusion makes this song a gut punch in the best way. In this also, there are traditional forms Yo resorts to. Siempre is more familiar territory, setting a dramatic setting for listeners.

I loved the way layers pour in to piece together this revelation of a vision. This is honour, divinity and an experience that will last forever, through music.  In that dynamic property called Carmina Alegría, Yo is able to show many dynamic lifts and shifts in the way Carmen has performed her music and crafted the niches within which the music really gels.

Getting towards the closer of the album, Yo inserts some more memories as a part of the albums’ ethos. It’s not just honouring a promise, but celebrating a personality that has lived a life of example and respect. Yo makes this something of a seed to observe in all that goes on in the world. Let it bloom:

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
