The Velvet Lies are a whole new passage into stoner metal. They opened this gauntlet during Covid and haven’t looked back since. This band is a guitar, a bass, and a drum machine, and what they bring to the show is nothing short of spectacular. They have had consistent, persistent releases through the years, and Hecatomb is no different. This is a single from their album called Macabre Masquerade.
Let no time be wasted in creating daunting ambiences. The Velvet Lies come in strong with a drum attack and immediately move to obliterating riffs. Used to the galloping verse section, sweep picking leads will transport you to other worlds. The vocals are gruff and intense. They steal the show while using the tempo to build on the rage. This song is the seventh track on the album but it doesn’t laze off with the energy of being just an interlude. It is short like a punk song but doesn’t discount any of the energy a death metal song should carry.

Raw, yet finessed death metal
Hecatomb has many other songs that punch through a concrete wall with the kind of energy they can bring. Even in their prior singles, The Velvet Lies have been able to produce incredible razor-sharp numbers with technical mastery. Ricky Fury, Riccardo Benedini, and Mike Thomas make sure that neither the tempo nor the rhythm ever slacks. Their EP from 2025 called Harvest 2.0 had quietly teased something as intense as this album.
The Londoners are not going to hold back in any of the tracks that they release. Hecatomb continues to be their most ambitious, raw and fuzz-heavy project yet. Better brace the walls of the house because they’re here to bring the roof down. Listen to their single and album below:
