Tár revives hard rock for the ages with their latest EP, ‘Dancing On The Event Horizon’

Perhaps what Tár has for you is not what you’re prepared for. This is hot and intense hard rock with a dream all the way from Szczecin, Poland. Comprised of Tomasz Jackowski on vocals, Krzysztof Boboryko on guitars, Robert Lachendro on bass and Daniel Nowakowski on the drums, they’re here to create some waves. They’ll blow a black hole in your reality with their latest EP, Dancing On The Event Horizon. The sands of time will change now.

Finding their own sound

As far as indie desert rock bands go, Tár moves with a groove which is their very own tempo. A Course For Home opens up this EP with a charging riff, commanding vocals and a rhythm section that would put anyone to shame. The duality fits into the verse and chorus in terms of energy, the main section having a much heavier, darker tone. A memorable chord progression becomes an instant connect to your synapses.

After their 2024 EP Chasing Shadows… Losing Ground, Tár has built on their persona to become more vivid in their expression and tones and experimental in their approach to composition. The second half of their opening song itself was a whole other genre, mounting with inspirational melodies. Black Lights comes in as their second single, an avant-garde, dissonant melodic section opening up the song. As we split into different sections, the way they technically approach certain parts and let the emotions take over for some is impressive. Neon Blood is a prime example of that, intensifying this play with light with a certain resolve.

Tár is taking a new path home

Tár shows us that the audience doesn’t have to be alienated when something technical is being played. The band compose themselves with great structure. Krzysztof, Robert and Daniel hold down the fort with pride as Tomasz gives you a range of narratives on vocals. Playing with time signatures and different themes, the project has made it clear that this is ground for experimentation. You might hear them build on this sound, but never settle for a certain kind.

Closing this thrilling energy with Anatomy of Letting Go, there is a painful melancholy that they’re able to confront with their song. Like a Skyharbor track, they are able to capture fragments of hard rock while tying to atmospheric pauses as well. Dancing On The Event Horizon proves that Tár is gearing up for a powerful chapter. Whether they are vocal narratives or song lyrics and the delectable solos they’ve baked into the songs, this is soul-stirring rock returning for us.
