‘wish i could hate u’: but I don’t know how

‘wish i could hate u’ is scathing. It seems fed-up, stepping back from a situation that seems to be taking from the narrator rather than giving. There’s an understanding of love within the lyrics that seems straightforward while detailing moments where their love has been taken advantage of.

“…That’s the thing about love,

You embrace each other’s flaws.

You grow together as one,

Let it shape you and keep pushin’ on…”.

There are moments of frustration within the song’s lines. A sense of being blind-sided, and feeling bitterness for letting it get this far.

“…It sucks to say,

But you still have my heart.

I wish you didn’t,

But it’s just the way things are…”.

The soundscape of  ‘wish i could hate u’ is slow and pulsing. It holds within it a sense of deliberation, a hazy mood of temptation almost. This tone seems to juxtapose the punchy mood of the song’s lyrics.

“…I wish I could hate you

For what you did to me.

But I don’t know how,’

I gave you everything…”.

‘wish i could hate u’ by Ricky Earlywine is a sultry RnB tune with a sound that is equal parts sultry and lamenting. There’s a sense of regret followed by a mood of begrudging acceptance, that is empowered by a strong sense of self.
