‘Shot Of Blue’: Flashes of Light

‘Shot Of Blue’ feels heavy, with lines that want to cast away moments of a dreary gloom that seems to have settled over the song’s mood. They beg for a sliver of sun during a perpetual gloom.

“…I wouldn’t mind a flash of sun, just once lord a shot of blue.

It’s been so long since I’ve had one, Lord…you know it’s true…”.

There’s this plea for some light in a mood that is pervasivelyin dark. The song’s soundscape is bathed in this deep dark, with a beat that feels like it’s being sucked down by quicksand.

“…I’ve had my fill of clouds and rain…

…I’ve felt the burn…of ice and cold…

…I will again. Here it comes again…”.

‘Shot Of Blue’ by Tom DiCillo is seeped in regret and sadness. Some lines feel like they were dipped in a heavy sense of pessimism. This keeping its guitar melodies heavy while the lyrics call for something light.

The lines finally wish for an end to this gloomy suffering, resolving to walk away, taking action to find that “…flash of sun…”. That “…shot of blue…”. It seems to ask for a break from the pain that seems like it’s a part of the human condition now.

“…No broken dreams,…no fits of rage….No crown of thorns, no wars to wage…

…No better time…to walk away…

…For a flash of sun, for a shot of blue…”.
