Shyfrin Alliance, led by frontman Eduard Shyfrin, comes out with their latest track, “Whiskey Blues”— and from start to end, it’s one hell of a listen. Taking in influences from blues and jazz, this is the kind of track that’s perfect to crank up when there’s fires lit, glasses being poured, and conversations being had. Keep reading for my thoughts!
Theres just something about a mellow blend of rock and jazz that gets somebody like me going— from its long-ringing guitars chords that sit atop a keyboard line that hums blues melodies, to the hard-hitting drums that make their presence felt at every step of the journey, this track is a rewarding listen. The vocals sit perfectly in the centre of the drama in their unique, baritone timbre that’s sure to get you humming the minute you listen to them. His baritone voice is like butter, smooth and rich, and it’s got this certain je ne sais quoi that’ll make your heart melt. The solo in the middle of the song is a highlight, with the keys and guitars playing off each other in a way that’s both catchy and sophisticated, until the vocals mark their reentry with all their energy.

The energy in this song is unmistakable, and bold; the drums keep swift cadence, effortlessly keeping up with the myriad instruments that make up the rest of the ensemble; and the dynamics control here is beyond excellent; not once letting any of the other elements fade away into the background, and the mood of the song is groovy, and the outro tasteful. It’s a delicate balancing act, but Shyfrin Alliance pulls it off with ease. The mix keeps things tight and well-rounded, with great control in the transients of the drums, and a rich texture on the vocals and guitars, all in all, a great master.
