“The Witch Awakens”, is the latest release by Minerva Rising that sees vivid experimentation in electronic and ambient sound design— bringing influences and sounds picked from far and wide— and from places you wouldn’t expect. Keep reading for my thoughts!
“The Witch Awakens” is a dark, gritty affair, bringing in textures that sound like they’re from out of this world— while the basses hold the pulse of the track steady, and the other elements evolve slowly alongside. There is much to appreciate about the way the track is structured, too, for it does not feel rushed— instead, it takes its time building its energy, all for it to culminate in a rewarding, gentle release.

There is also much to appreciate about the mixing on “The Witch Awakens”, with its gritty textures expertly controlled in the mix— while the soundstage is wide, expansive, and more than skin deep; there is a perceived well of sound that just does not seem to end with this one— and I’m a fan. The master is cold, clinical, and befits a track of this style, with its to-the-tittle precision in the low-end, while the dynamics are very, very well-controlled. The vocal chops make a welcome appearance on the track, too, and the result is an overall astounding listen.
