“Talkin’ To You” by Carson Ferris: Pop, with an electronic twist

Carson Ferris is an American pop artist that has quite garnered a devout following over time, with over 50,000 loyal listeners every month. Their latest single, “Talkin’ To You”, is an electropop track that has quite the distinctive sound– keep reading for my thoughts!

The song has very distinctive focus on electronic production techniques, and what sets this track apart from the first bar is how these elements tie themselves into the acoustic instruments. From the strummed guitars in the intro, to the vocals themselves and the adlibs, there is an electronic twist to everything that compliments the sound, giving it an extra dimension, almost, something that I quite appreciated in my time listening to this song.

The hook manages to be very interesting, and easily the highlight of the whole song, as pop numbers should be. All the elements of the song come together and produce a powerful and emotive sound that leaves quite the impression on the listener. There is a lot going on, from the clean electric guitar parts, to the wafty reverbs and delays that expand the soundstage of the song dramatically.

The percussion and instrumental of this song is another highlight, keeping the song firmly centred around the metronome, giving it a very danceable rhythm and style. The thumping kicks and the tight snare switch up in the pre-chorus after the first verse, highlighting the dancehall quality of this song. The vocals also deserve a special mention because of how elegant and effortless they sound, with the vocalist in question hitting all the notes at the perfect tessitura, something that I, again, quite appreciated.

Overall, “Talkin’ To You” by Carson Ferris is a great overall package that deserves a spot in your top 10 this week. Check out the track here!
