Staff Brett has been working in the UK music industry for around two decades, working with the likes of Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey. Hailing from Cowes, Isle of Wight, his latest single, ‘Amigo‘ is a sweet heartfelt indie chamber pop ballad tribute to his late friend and lead guitarist Carl Perkins. Brett’s former ‘Driver’ bandmate, Irish producer Pete Downing collaborated on the track. At 25, he recorded his first demo EP in a converted pig shed, founding his own label. He has done charity concert for the 2004 tsunami relief and a run of London showcase gigs, including a slot on the Uncut stage at Guilfest.

Coming to the music itself, I really enjoyed the beginning of the song, with string section synths in the backdrop and acoustic guitar lines. The vocals enter in along with an electronic drum groove, which pushes the song forward. The chorus refrain is memorable and stays in your mind. Vocals here are well performed, no acrobatics, but well executed. In the second verse, retro synths enter in. The outro really sounds cinematic, with the pacing being even throughout. The feel of this track is really something, especially giving a grand sense of ending without going overboard by Staff Brett.
The production feels intentionally unfussy yet deeply considered, giving the track a warm, lived-in character. What stands out is how naturally everything breathes, nothing shouts for attention, yet each layer earns its place. It’s the kind of song that rewards repeat listens, revealing small emotional details each time. So definitely give a sping to this heartfelt track by Staff Brett.
