French-based artist Pierre to a degree has released a new EP, “Becoming Wind,” featuring four songs. It opens with the self-titled track, “Becoming Wind.” The song begins in a surreal way. Atmospheric female vocal work backed by celestial synths makes it feel dreamy and deeply meditative. Then, gradually, the music gains momentum. Groovy, amazing beats come in, and the track evolves into an electrifying bop that’s so hypnotic you’ll find it hard to stop moving.
Next is “Reverie (Where Dreams Lead).” It starts slow with mysterious synth work that’s subtly trippy, and the moment the beats kick in, it becomes impossible not to tap your feet. The echoing, atmospheric vocals give the song a mellifluous yet hypnotic spell, like the groove is carrying you somewhere you can’t quite explain.

“Dawn” wastes no time in building a happening yet meditative atmosphere. The beats stay consistent, while hypnotic, eerie synths make the whole track feel even more surreal. It’s easy on the ears, but still high impact. There are also small moments of ebb and flow, along with minor nuances that reward repeat listens. Songs like this really deserve to be played more than once to fully catch everything.
