“Merry Christmas”, by Happy Duke: Holiday pop fervour!

Happy Duke is no stranger to making happy, holiday-friendly music, as can be evidenced with his debut single, “Merry Christmas”– in this track, he brings forward a catchy, radio-friendly sound that finds appeal in you regardless of who you are, and is sure to get you grooving. Keep reading for my thoughts!

There is a lot going on in this mix, right from the very start– and I mean that in the best ways possible– from the banjos in the background to the jingling bells in the background, the first second of this song is all it really takes to set the mood to be festive, to be celebratory; and we’re here for the energy!

The Mellotron-esque pads ring warm and bright, complimenting Duke’s vocals perfectly as well as the claps and the rest of the percussion; with some more modern-sounding synths playing backup roles. The vocals, themselves, leverage the power of chant-like, repetitive passages to make sure the melody gets stuck in your mind, and over the course of my listening to this song, it really did drive the point home; that it was, indeed, a merry Christmas.

Of appreciation is also the layering in the production as well as the vocal layering, both of which are done rather well on “Merry Christmas”. There is a variety of instruments in the mix like the Mellotron I mentioned earlier, as well as the warm, spacey pads and the dance-friendly percussion that manages to strike the perfect energy balance and makes this track rather dance-floor friendly as well.

On “Merry Christmas”, there is a lot of flavour in for you this holiday season; and I’m sure you won’t be left wanting. Check out the track here!
