‘Lost  In This Feeling’ by Maluscomas is a Sentimental, Vulnerable Piano Ballad (Interview)

Lost In This Feeling’ by Maluscomas is a sentimental piano-led ballad by the singer-songwriter  that keeps its audience captive throughout. Its moving, dynamic melodies seem to hold in them optimistic vulnerability, pulling the listener in and allowing them to hold space for the love they feel.

The haunting melodies flood through speakers, keeping the listener held and locked into place while the narrator dives deep into the experience of their love. Soft and a bit somber, the love our narrator describes being wholly immersed in an experience that brings out every emotion.

“…Lost In This Feeling, a story unfolds…”

The song keeps you suspended in its mood, with quiet melodies that seem to fuel bright-laced reflection. The piano melodies and guitar strums seem to work in tandem to create an undeniably soft mood, one that feels inherently moving.

It takes a moment to feel fully lost and immersed in the sentiment of the song, which seems to wrap you in its open vulnerability. The pianos on ‘Lost In This Feeling’ seem to hold space for emotions that are full and passionate.

In that regard, the mood seems to veer to the side of haunting.

‘Lost In This Feeling’ is a song that feels fully immersed in the tenderness and passion that lies in the moment. The soundscape and melodies feel wholly immersed in the optimism and passion that’s been folded into the lyrics, it feels like a heady mix of chill-inducing passion and moving sentiment.

About ‘Lost In This Feeling’

1. Congratulations on the release of ‘Lost in This Feeling’. How has putting the song out there felt?

Response: Thank you so much! It’s quite a feeling, honestly. There’s an immense sense of relief and a little bit of vulnerability, too. “Lost In This Feeling” is so deeply personal, written for my wife, so putting it out into the world feels like sharing a very intimate part of myself.

But ultimately, it’s a beautiful feeling. It’s like sending a message in a bottle out to sea, hoping it connects with others, while also celebrating something incredibly special to me. The anticipation has been building, and now that it’s out, there’s a real sense of quiet joy.

2. What inspired the track?

Response: The inspiration for “Lost in This Feeling” comes directly from my relationship with my wife. There are those moments in a profound connection where you just feel utterly overwhelmed by love, almost consumed by it in the most beautiful, breathtaking way. It’s not about grand gestures; it’s about the quiet understanding, the shared glances, the feeling of complete belonging. I wanted to capture that sensation of being so deeply in love that you’re almost ‘lost’ in the emotion, completely immersed and present in that moment. It’s a tribute to our journey together and the incredible bond we share.

The Song

3. The song’s melodies oscillate from something quiet to something impassioned and loud, underscored with a weighted vulnerability. Could you give us a sense of how you arrived at this dynamic build-up?

Response: That dynamic build-up was very intentional, and it really came from trying to sonically articulate the journey of emotion within a deep love. It starts quietly, representing the initial, perhaps more introspective moments of connection – the gentle recognition, the subtle understanding.

As love deepens, it naturally grows more intense, more profound, passionate and sometimes even overwhelming. The build-up to the more impassioned and loud sections mirrors that crescendo of feeling, that moment where the emotion becomes so potent it almost overflows. The vulnerability is woven throughout because even in the strongest love, there’s a tenderness and a delicate balance. It was about allowing the music to breathe and expand as the emotional landscape of the song unfolded.

About Maluscomas

4. Could you tell us a bit about your start as a musician?

Response: My start was quite humble, really. Music was always a constant companion. From a young age, I was drawn to sounds, melodies, and the way music could evoke such strong emotions.

I started experimenting with my guitar at 16, learning to play by ear, and just absorbing everything I could. There wasn’t a grand plan initially, just an undeniable pull towards creating. It was a gradual journey of self-discovery, fueled by a passion that I couldn’t ignore. Eventually, that led to writing my own material, and then, after years of refining my craft and finding my voice, the debut album ‘Other Side of Peace’ in 2022 was the culmination of that initial spark finally finding its way out into the world. Post ‘Other Side of Peace’ I’ve been working on fresh sounds and re-discovering my musicality.

5. Where does your musical inspiration stem from?

Response: My musical inspiration stems from a confluence of sources, but primarily from human experience and the natural world. I’m deeply moved by life experiences and emotion – joy, sorrow, introspection, connection. I try to distill those complex feelings into sound.

Beyond that, I find a lot of inspiration in nature; the vastness of the sky, the tranquility of a quiet forest, the relentless flow of water – they all offer rhythms and textures that find their way into my compositions. And of course, various other classic rock, blues and progressive rock artists. The willingness to be vulnerable and innovative constantly push me to explore new sonic territories. Ultimately, it’s about observing, feeling, and then translating that into something audible.

Creative Process

6. Could you walk us through your creative process?

Response: My creative process often begins with a feeling or an image rather than a concrete musical idea. Sometimes it’s a phrase, sometimes it’s a visual memory, or just an emotion I’m trying to explore. I’ll usually sit down with my guitar, or sometimes just with a notepad, and let whatever comes naturally start to form.

I don’t force it. Many times, a melody will emerge first, and then the lyrics will slowly reveal themselves, almost as if they were waiting for the right sound to accompany them. I often record raw ideas on my phone, or laptop, just to capture the initial spark. A lot of instrumental songs come through improvising, I believe that’s the best way to write instrumentals. Just jam along and let yourself loose.

Once I’ve laid out the initial sketch of the song, it’s a process of refinement, layering, and experimenting with different textures and arrangements until the song fully realizes its potential and expresses the initial feeling that inspired it. It’s very intuitive for me. And a lot of times I take help from other musicians – peers, professionals who help me refine the overall idea. Creating music is a fun process, there are times where I know I can’t do it all by myself so there’s no harm in taking help from the music community that brings the best. The goal is to execute the song in hand and take it closer to the sounds that you imagine in your head.

A Message for Listeners and Aspiring Artists

A Message for Listeners

7. Do you have a message for your listeners?

Response: To everyone who listens, whether you’ve been with me since ‘Other Side of Peace’ or are just discovering my music with “Lost in This Feeling,” thank you. Thank you for opening your ears and your hearts to what I create.

Music, for me, is about connection, and knowing that my songs resonate with you means the world to me. I hope “Lost in This Feeling” brings a sense of warmth, perhaps even a reminder of the beautiful connections in your own lives. Keep seeking out genuine emotions and never be afraid to feel deeply. Your support truly empowers me to continue this journey.

A Message for Aspiring Artists

8. Finally, do you have a message for aspiring artists on a journey like your own?

Response: For aspiring artists, my biggest message is to stay true to your unique voice. In a world saturated with so much content, what makes you stand out is your authenticity. Don’t chase trends; chase what genuinely moves you. Be relentless in your craft but also be patient with yourself.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Embrace every challenge as a learning opportunity. Build a supportive community around you. And most importantly, create from the heart. If you pour your genuine self into your art, it will find its audience. The journey is incredibly rewarding, so enjoy every step, even the difficult ones. Believe in your vision.
