Kyla Tilley – Bloom and Grow | Purple Experience

Kyla Tilley is a Canadian singer-songwriter for her emotional live performances and turbulent musical explorations. She delves into every corner her life and experience to serve up vibrant melodies and enchanting harmonies that seeps into the soul. Bloom and Grow by Kyla Tilley is the artist’s latest album that thoroughly engages your senses.

Bloom and Grow starts off the album with electrifying guitar melodies. punctualted periodically by a bundle of quick drum beats. The low tonalities of the vocals add a charming mystery to the song. The song carries the spontaneous and authentic energy of iconic underground bar performances. Unexpected melody blends and an unpredictable beat cycle adds a jazz flavour to the song.

Swimsuit & Axe sports simple beat cycles, lilting guitar melodies and the artist’s signature enchanting vocals. We also see simple double harmonies rolling in the steely sound of cymbal beat shower. A beautiful guitar melody enjoys the spot light towards the second half of the song; uninterrupted only occasionally by soulful vocal harmonies.

The underground purple melodies continue with The League. With rough and raw guitar work, the artist contrasts the song with mellow vocal tangents and spontaneous beat cycles to create a fragmented listening experience. Garden Wish is the fourth song in the album. The song adopts a mark tree percussion detail in the beginning. The vocal deliveries and haronies spiral into the instrumental melodies. We see the reappearance of the mark tree’s musical color in the bridge blending with the beats and the guitar.

Apathy features OrangeG’s melodious baritone vocals beautifully harmonising Tilley’s vocals. There are parts of the song lined with OrangeG’s calming deep hums. The song has other serene elements like mouth organ melodies and slow acoustic guitar ripples. The song chronicles the journey to apathy that is littered with packets of loaded emotions before there is nothing.

Shoe Shopping: A Poem showcases the artist’s love for shoes. Painted as a forbidden fruit, the shoes beckon and entice the artist. The song is a poetic ode to shoes and the magnetic appeal it has. Innocently gesturing to be bought, the shoes carry a wicked promise that draws people to it.

I Am Chaos starts off with soft and gentle guitar acoustics and sweet vocals. A quick whimsical melody and vocal blend in the chorus leads us away from the initial softness. The artist uses broad guitar blocks to challenge the narrative and guilt that revolves around having a liven-in home environment. While she dreams to achieve a picture perfect, magazine-ready home, the artist speaks of chaotic habits irrepresibly exploding and intefering with her dream.

The Dragon carries a deep rock groove with electric guitar details and snare drum beats leaning into the artist’s pop vocals. We see escaping vocal harmonies and molten guitar work used to color the musical landscape. One Foot in Front of the Other contains speaking vocals that trace the struggle of being patient and keeping a steady pace. All of us tend to run towards our dream, not worrying about intervening practicalities. We forget that there is a deep joy in learning and savouring the journey and focus only on how fast we can get to the destination.

The Circle contains beautiful blends of guitar melodies and vocal harmony tangents. The tempo of the song periodically slows down and evens out before entering the caves of renewed energetic melodies. In After the Battle we see a beautiful bass cello melody lining the simple guitar details. The cello has an ensnaring quality to it and adds a wonderful layer to the song.

Song Like John ends the album with summer energy and delightful emotions. The song sports a definite tempo and a fast rippling guitar melody steadily accompanying the vocals. A perfect feel good song, the artist infuses it with the loveliness of a John she knows and loves.
