Opening with “Alive With You,” the album draws you into an immersive dreamscape of horns, synths, and beats, where Lauri Järvilehto explores the depth of human connection. It’s an intricate, floating start, setting the stage for an album that balances softness and energy throughout. “Typhoon” ramps up with an indie-rock pulse, featuring a punchy bass line, vocal harmonies, and a rocking guitar solo that packs an electric punch. Järvilehto sings of resilience and facing life’s storms, creating a catchy, empowering vibe that’s perfect for pushing through challenges.

“Moomin Weather” is a standout with its funky, upbeat rhythm and jazzy pop-rock feel. The guitars and lively groove add a sense of fun that makes it easy to get lost in. This track captures a certain ease, celebrating the power of going with the flow—an idea Lauri Järvilehto embraces with a casual, almost playful approach.

The softer “The Days We Forget,” featuring Silja’s vocals, is a gentle synth-pop ballad, exploring the beauty of life’s fleeting moments with a delicate, retro sound. The airy, tender production offers a peaceful contrast to the album’s more upbeat tracks. Meanwhile, “Whippoorwill” dives into themes of societal disillusionment, giving a haunting layer to this synth-driven piece.

“My Little Butterfly” strips the sound back, letting Järvilehto’s vocals and Silja’s harmonies take the lead in a minimal synth setting. This raw, intimate track speaks of personal empowerment, giving the album a personal touch. “Maze” opens with piano and adds layers of vocal harmonies that invite listeners into a dreamy, introspective space. The album closes with “Hey Kid,” a pop-rock track that features bass, piano, and an upbeat rhythm, feeling like an encouraging letter to a younger self. It’s an uplifting end, leaving listeners with a sense of closure and optimism.

The album showcases a wide range of instruments, blending analog synthesizers like the Prophet 5 and Juno-106 with traditional instruments such as the Telecaster, Yamaha C3 grand, and a good old Pearl drum kit. There are also unique touches like the jaw harp and ebow. Paavo contributed to the arrangement of “Whippoorwill,” while Silja’s vocals alongside Järvilehto’s on “The Days We Forget” and “My Little Butterfly” add to these reflective pieces. ‘Songs About Sadness’ by Lauri Järvilehto, lends deep lyrics and vibrant arrangements into a cohesive, soul-nourishing experience. A must-listen for a mix of light upbeat and brain-tickling sounds!
