Nix Dadry is a rock artist influenced by the sounds of blues, grunge, and folk; after cutting his teeth in London for a while, he moved to the Midlands in the UK, where he is now based. On his latest single, “Kiss The Dirt”, he brings forth a sound that is soulful, and incorporates his musical influences quite elegantly. Keep reading for my thoughts!
One thing that stands out immediately bout this track is the extensive use of harmonies throughout the track. They are voiced really nicely, with the depth in the layering bringing a whole other dimension to the production of this track. There is also much to appreciate about the lead vocals by Nix, too, with great voicing and articulation, coupled with beautiful, ion-time singing.

The lyricism and singing, as a whole, are done nicely. The lyrics are hopeful, and sunny positivity radiates through the lines as Nix delivers the lead vocals with grace and cheer. There’s a lot of soul influence shining through here, this time in a 80s-90s pop rock ballad avatar, which also was to my appreciation.
The rest of the ensemble does not at all fall behind, either, with the guitars a special standout on this track, with their gentle strumming delicately laid atop the pianos. There is also a lot of articulation in the drumming, with the sound design being charming and delightful, especially in that far off left channel, where a percussive element resides, contributing rhythms and atmosphere throughout the song.
All in all, “Kiss The Dirt”, by Nix Dadry is the kind of song I envision soundtracking a heartfelt, warm-tears-of-joy scene in a period movie, and the imagery refuses to leave me; and it won’t you, either. Check out the track here!
