“Heaven’s Light Our Guide”, by Torpedoes: Powerful messages, even more powerful rock music

Ray (Razor) Fagan, formerly of Red Letter Day, offers a raw perspective on the harsh realities of our world — from delving into sensitive themes that deserve talking about, to bringing his own sound to the forefront, we meet his album, “Heaven’s Light Our Guide” — keep reading for my thoughts!

“Heaven’s Light Our Guide” delves into dark themes such as planetary destruction, corruption, bereavement, and historical tragedies. One poignant track is inspired by the mass suicide in Demmin, Germany, in May 1945, where over a thousand residents chose death over the horrors of the approaching Russian troops.

The album opens with “Somekindaheaven”, a faster-paced rock track that lends itself to some great groove and drumming come the start – with the vocal harmonies and guitars lending good amount of pizazz and a sense of urgency to the song; while the reverbs and the vocal layers creating a haunting, almost, kind of atmosphere. As we move on to “End Of The World Party”, Ray plays rather nicely on the backbeat-infused rock rhythms, as the electric guitars help paint the true sound of this album quite nicely; all the while, his vocals unwavering, and the execution very tasteful.

With tracks like “Blue Sky (In The Rain)” and “Singing Myself To Sleep” creating a haunting, sobering perspective, with lyrics like “And it is a pleasure waiting to drown as the angels sing along” and their harder-edged sound; and the production keeping up rather well, we bring “Heaven’s Light Our Guide” to a close with the aptly named “So…Goodbye”,  which has a cheerful, nostalgic tone that remains with the listener, serving to wrap the theme of the album up quite nicely.

All in all, “Heaven’s Light Our Guide” by Ray Fagan delves into sensitive themes and couples them with a friendly, approachable rock sound, and pairs it with tasteful execution, making for a memorable experience throughout and through. We’re looking forward to when this album drops on all streaming platforms!
