If you’ve been searching for a new indie pop duo to fall in love with, look no further than The Astronomers. Ben Baker and Michael Stensland met in a sixth-grade jazz band and have been making music together ever since. After graduating from high school, they formed “The Astronomers” and have been perfecting their sound ever since. The Astronomers’ music is a unique blend of pop and electronic elements, with catchy melodies that will stay stuck in your head for days.
Their debut album, “ The Occasion,” is out. It has 11 songs in total. The intro track “Bad Type” is very pleasant to listen to. The simple piano melody stands out in the song, but it still manages to sound incredibly catchy and full of energy. It’s a perfect example of how The Astronomers have found their sound – a perfect blend of vintage appeal and modern sensibilities.
The second song on the album is “Like the Holidays.” What’s the best way to enjoy the summertime? By living each day as if it were a holiday, of course! And what better way to get into the summer spirit than by listening to the perfect summertime bop: “Like the Holidays.” This tune is jam-packed with an upbeat soundscape that is very refreshing. So turn up the volume, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Let “Like the Holidays” take you to a place where a party is every day.
The song “Hotel Room” is an incredible example of how to execute a catchy, unique, and overall enjoyable song. The song features many different elements each one is executed flawlessly. For example, the beginning of the song features cheerful synths that are sure to put a smile on your face. The song erupts with melody halfway through, a fact that makes it so captivating.
“Love Lost & Found” is a breath of fresh hair. The incorporation of amazing female vocals is refreshing to listen to, and the melody is so pleasant that you can’t help but keep listening. It’s like you’re on a vacation with your loved one, and everything seems perfect.
“US” is the fifth song on the album. If you’re looking for a song that will transport you to a state of pure bliss, look no further than “US.” The ethereal vocals and soothing soundscape are incredibly calming, while the music burst at the end provides just the right amount of energy to keep you hooked. Trust me. This song is the perfect way to unwind after a long day.
We all have those moments in life when we wish things would just slow down for a bit. That’s what I love about “HUMS.” It’s only 1:30 seconds long, but it’s so dreamy and magical. If you need a reminder to take things slow and appreciate the little moments, I highly recommend giving “HUMS” a listen. You might find yourself in another world.
“U Suck” is a peppy yet mellow and merry song that makes you tap our feet and bob your head along. It is so chill! The jazzy vibe toward the end makes you feel like you’re cruising down the street in a convertible.
“Ruin My Day” is just so good, and it is definitely a fav on the album. The song bursts with energy, the bassline is so good, and so are the vocals. It has a fresh sound, and it’s one of those songs that you can’t help but sing along to. It’s a feel-good track that will put your mood in a great place!
The song “Stories Of Last Summer” is a happy and nostalgic song about spending time with a loved one. The lyrics are relatable, and the beat drop halfway through the song is sure to get your toes tapping. The guitar work and sound effects at the beginning of the song set the perfect tone for this happy summer memory.
“Turn Out Fine” is about the fear and anxiety that come with making big changes in our lives, whether it’s starting a new job, moving to a new town, or going through a breakup and how it will all end up well after all. The track is perfect for a day at the beach or a pool party. It’s sure to get you in the summer spirit!
The album’s title track “The Occasion” is the perfect way to close out the journey. At over four minutes, it’s the longest song on the album, and it absolutely lives up to its hype. The song is full of grandiose synths, captivating vocals, and finger-snapping beats that will keep you hooked from beginning to end, and the duo’s vocals are on point, as always. “Take a break, gotta breath, no it’s all your vacation, just enjoy the occasion” is such a great reminder we all need!
